Learn the magic of creating your own top-down construction patterns! Students bring to class a knitted, blocked swatch at least 6” square. Using that swatch and body measurements, students design their own sweater (or another piece) using the template provided. From that design, students write a pattern to complete the piece with top-down construction. A discussion of ease and its effect on fit, stitch pattern choices, and various design elements will prepare students to confidently design a piece they will treasure because it really fits the way they want it to fit. Students can choose from sweater/bodice/capelet options, with size, ease, sleeve length, and pullover or cardigan options. The class will be taking body and other measurements and working through a worksheet to compile the necessary figures to complete the pattern. Students will leave with a one-page written pattern ready to cast on and complete the piece they have designed, as well as the complete template that can be used over and over to create pieces with any yarn, in any size, and with almost any stitch pattern. The template is perfect for “stash-busting” projects or designing with handspun yarns, and it truly opens up a world of design options to any knitter.

Students should bring a calculator, pen or pencil, and measuring tape.
